Elijah McCoy (Colchester, 1843 \u2013 Detroit, 1929) was an engineer who was born in Canada as a result of his parents having fled slavery in Kentucky. He invented an automatic lubrication system that allowed machines to keep running when manually adding oil. He produced over 50 patents in his name, including a lawn sprinkler.
